Google Health Betrays Web 2.0 Technologies

Google has been the target of criticism lately for its approach to innovation. For example, some people claim that Google Health failed due the fact that it betrayed the Web 2.0 design ideals that the company helped to pioneer. Specifically, the idea of building an application that improves as more people use it seems to have gotten lost amid Google's rapid growth. Google Health had a UI which many people considered to be awkward, while it's records management system wasn't useful enough to gain the commitment of individuals or medical professionals.

Critics argue that Google has become a victim of its own success, as it has had trouble keeping its teams lean and focused. Because Google is now expected to support every platform, its developers are forced to use large scale infrastructure that is not conducive to the smaller social projects that tend to drive cutting edge innovation.
